Zoe Buckman is a British artist, photographer, and producer. She was married to American actor and director David Schwimmer.

Buckman was born to Nick Blatchley, a government health official and Jennie Buckman, a television writer and playwright, also the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts head of acting from 1986 to 2007. She is a niece of Peter Buckman who is an English literary agent and writer and her paternal grandmother was the sister of Sir Alec Guinness’s wife.

Buckman was married to actor and director David Schwimmer. They began dating in 2007 with their engagement being announced in March 2010. In June 2010, they got married in a small ceremony. They remained together till April 2017 when they announced that they were separating.

Present Life

This is is an artwork of Buckman’s plastinated placenta. After her daughter’s birth, she was informed that her placenta had deteriorated and could have caused the premature death of her child had she not been born. Buckman then decided to preserve the placenta through plastination and has used the experience to inform her Present Life art series.

Every Curve

This artwork brings out Buckman’s Feminist ideology as embroidery on vintage women’s lingerie. It brings together Buckman’s love of 1990s rap lyrics mainly from Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. She does this by hand embroidering rap lyrics onto vintage garments as a way of exploring the conflict between feminism and hip-hop.

Mostly It’s Just Uncomfortable

This artwork includes gynecological and boxing imagery and objects. It is Buckman’s response to the attack on Planned Parenthood in the U.S. and the consequent lack of access to free sexual health care for underserved women and the attempted removal of a woman’s right to make choices concerning her own body.

Let Her Rave

Let Her Rave, a response to a line in Ode on Melancholy, a poem by John Keats is about the society’s control of women and their bodies through patriarchal constructs. She captures this through sculptures of boxing gloves trimmed with vintage wedding dresses hanging from the ceiling and a powerful neon adorned with wedding veils. It explores the complex aggressions that women face and provides the idea that they must fight in response.
