On September 13, 1950, Jeff Lowe was born to Ralph Lowe and Elgene Lowe in Ogden, Utah.
His father, Ralph, was also a climber and WWII pilot, and his mother, Elgene, was a dancer.
He was the co-founder of Lowe Alpine along with his brothers Greg Lowe and Mike Lowe.
He belonged to an adventurous family, living right up against the Wasatch Mountains on the East Bench in Ogden.
He was gifted physically, which he received from his father and mother.
Jeff started skiing at the age of 4. He climbed with his father and brothers at six years old.
Jeff’s father, Ralph, took the kids climbing the limestone and quartzite cliffs close behind the house.
He took him and his brothers to the Exum Ridge, resulting in him being the youngest person to climb the Grand Teton at seven years of age.
He and his siblings ski raced, hiked, camped, and worked hard.
Jeff Lowe also had a cousin, George Henry Lowe III, where many people get confused with George Lowe, the mountaineer of New Zealand.
