Michael Rhodes, a well-known American bassist, passed away on March 4, 2023. He gained widespread acclaim for his live performances, studio work in support of other performers, and membership in a number of bands and ensembles.
Rhodes was raised with a love of music and was born in Monroe, Louisiana. He had trained himself to play the guitar by the time he was 13 and later started playing the bass.
Early in the 1970s, he relocated to Austin, Texas, where he joined local bands before moving to Memphis, Tennessee. He had the opportunity to perform there with Charlie Rich’s son Alan Rich, a well-known country musician.
In 1977, Rhodes relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where he joined the group The Nerve, which also included Ricky Rector and Danny Rhodes. He subsequently changed careers, playing in bands as a demo musician for Tree Publishing Company.
